I have never read a Paige Toon book before, but I read the blurb of this one and I loved it and am really glad I read this book, I did find it a bit slow at the beginning but that was all about getting to know Sonny and Hannah, there was such a blast of connection when they first meet that maybe a relationship might happen, it is sure to go smoothly, but love very rarely does and this journey was filled with heart wrenching situations and events that have happened to both Hannah and Sonny in the past and for a future they need to overcome these.

Hannah is living in Cambridge house sitting her uncle’s place and babysitting his dog Bertie, she has travelled a lot and has also had had a very hard childhood that she keeps to herself. She works for an optometrist in the village and is friendly but leans towards being a loner, she is totally felled when a patient comes in to have his eyes checked and the spark is so very strong, she is hoping that on his next visit they might get to know each other a little more but that is not so but Hannah is drawn towards Sonny and the need to get closer to him and when they meet again she does what she can to get to know him.

Sonny is a photographer and is at home with his parents in Cambridge at the moment and he is very drawn to the woman who starts his eye test but a couple of weeks later his world has fallen apart and getting close to someone is not in his plans at all, he is making big changes in his life and wooing woman and romance is not at all part of his plan, but Hannah weaves her way into his life and they are fast becoming true friends but he suspects like him she is keeping part of herself hidden and as the summer moves on they are feeling the heat between them.

This is a well told story, MS Toon writes about issues that are relevant with respect and in such a caring way, the story is about hurt and heartbreak and what they can do to a person, it is a story of friendship and helping each other and falling in love. Sonny and Hannah both have things locked deep inside and once they start to open up to each other the weight is lifting, they have friends in common Matilda and Archie who are so lovely and add so much to this story, it really is a fabulous story that was hard to put down in the end, I am so very glad I read it and can highly recommend it and I look forward to many more Paige Toon Books.
