I have been really looking forward to this story, I know when I pick up a Maya Linnell book that I am going to transported to county Australia and meet some very strong, capable and loving heroes and heroines, characters who can step up to the mark when needed for anything their neighbour and town needs and I know I am going to be left smiling. We are back in Bridgefield with the McIntyre family and this time Lara finds her hero in journalist Toby Paxton.
Lara has been to hell and back but is now keeping herself very busy with her nursing, running, baking and of course her beautiful daughter Evie, she does not at all want a man in her life again but when there is an accident at the general store and post office, new guy in town Toby who is running the local paper is there to help and Lara feels the first inkling of something she hasn’t felt for many years.
Toby has moved here for a short time before he looks at something bigger in Ballarat he is a single dad to teenage Holly and a keen photographer and loves running, he is happy working on the local newspaper and getting to know the people who live here, but when he meets Lara at the general store and snaps a few photos she is not happy with him but she does make an impression on him.
The accident sees the need for the town to pull together to keep their general store running and Lara steps in to help and they form a committee to save the shop, there are fundraisers to organise, lots to do, Lara and Toby spend a lot of time together organising the fun run and other events and a friendship begins and Lara’s feelings are all over the place, and Toby is wanting to get closer, he knows about her past and is so caring, they have a lot of hurdles to cross before they find the love they both deserve.
I love being immersed in a story that is filled with emotion, love and happiness and this one is such a story it is a feel good story filled with fabulous characters that have become friends, I was cheering the town on and I had so much fun at the fundraisers and the baking wow such gorgeous cakes and biscuits and then there are the flowers and animals everything that is sure to make a fabulous rural romance and this one ticks to boxes.
This was a gorgeous story one that I didn’t want to finish I could have kept reading for many hours more, I loved Lara’s strength and vulnerability and Toby’s understanding and caring ways and his socks. I smiled all the way though, cheered Lara and Toby to find that love and happiness and was sighing when they got there. Thank you Maya Linnell for another awesome story, I loved this one so much and am looking forward to many more stories.
My thanks to Allen & Unwin for my ARC to read
