I do love a good rural romance and Karly Lane does them so very well add in suspense and this one is a page turner, I could barely put it down, I loved the setting, and the characters, this one is a must read.

Investigative journalist Pip Davenport is writing a book on her last investigation that saw her in danger but the culprit is in jail and it is time to get this book written, so she moves to her uncles quiet country home in Midgiburra, Victoria for three months, they have been in drought for years now and the dam is very low showing lots of metal thrown in there. Pip decides to get it cleaned out and hires Bob with his excavator but what they find will shock everyone and maybe Pip needs to investigate this story, a cold case from over seventy years ago, missing persons Molly Bigsby, her and her husband Herb owned the farm before her uncle, Herb is ninety eight and in the local nursing home after a stroke.

Pip cannot help herself and starts researching the Bigsby’s story, what she finds is a heartbreaking story of love and hurt and secrets kept by the town folk that happened during World War 2, this also brings her in contact with the local police officer and then a detective from the next town is called in as well. Pip is drawn to Detective Chris Jarret and she has no idea why but as they share facts about the case they get much closer, but then small things start happening and Pip is thrown back into her last investigation and she is in danger, but who can she trust?

This is a fast paced and fabulous story told so well by MS Lane she pulled me in and had me turning the pages, Pip is so strong and showed such strength with everything she had been through and the secrets she uncovers has the small township reeling, it is a beautiful story from the past and the now. I do highly recommend this one it is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat at times, and cheering Pip on. Don’t miss this one another keeper from Karly Lane.

My thanks to Allen & Unwin for my copy to read and review.
